A Promise Made of Salt

A Promise Made of Salt

Artist’s Statement: D J Wilson, LRPS

Drawn from Cape Ballet Company’s production “Salt”, this photograph captures a fleeting moment of equilibrium — where movement, control, and emotion converge. The dancers are suspended in a dialogue of trust and resistance, each limb and gaze contributing to a geometry of balance and vulnerability. The image explores the language of human connection as expressed through physical form: poised, powerful, and deeply intimate.

In silence they balance —

a breath held between trust and thrall,

skin gleaming like light made solid,

gravity paused in its slow pull.

These bodies remember the tide —

the ebb of closeness, the push of grace,

each gesture a question unanswered,

each touch a promise made of salt.
