Is This Camelot?
Artist’s Statement: D J Wilson, LRPS
A modern kingdom rises on the horizon — glass towers instead of turrets, steel and finance where legend once placed stone and myth. And yet, the scene feels oddly timeless.
Two figures with their dog walk down through sun-dried grass, their backs to us, as if moving toward a distant citadel. The skyline of Canary Wharf becomes a contemporary Camelot, its vertical forms echoing the romance of fortifications and imagined courts. Between foreground and future city lies an in-between world — rooftops, trees, the quiet slope of parkland — a threshold between ordinary life and something grander.
This photograph sits in that space where imagination overlays geography. It reminds us that cities, like stories, are built layer upon layer — history beneath steel, legend beneath skyline — and that sometimes, walking through a park can feel like stepping into a tale older than the buildings themselves.
