Safe Passage
Artist’s Statement: D J Wilson, LRPS
Captured in Kruger National Park, this scene shows a young baboon riding on its mother’s back as the troop moves through open ground.
Such moments are part of daily survival — mobility, vigilance, and close maternal care shaping the early life of the infant.
The photograph balances tenderness with the underlying tension of life in the African bush as the young baboon rests in complete trust while the adult navigates the world below. It is a scene of quiet dependence and constant alertness — a reminder that in the wild, love and survival walk side by side.
This photo has received an Honourable Mention at an International Photographic Salon.
