Chocolatier Dumon Bruges

Chocolatier Dumon Bruges

Artist’s Statement: D J Wilson, LRPS

In the historic streets of Bruges, the warm interior glow of Chocolatier Dumon spills through small-paned windows into the cool tones of the street outside. The modest brick façade, steep roof, and flower boxes speak of an older urban scale — intimate, human, and rooted in craft.

A woman stands waiting beside her luggage, framed between past and present. Behind her, the shop windows reveal movement and light; ahead of her, the street suggests onward travel. She becomes the emotional centre of the scene — a pause in motion, a moment of anticipation.

The photograph captures more than architecture. It holds an untold story: perhaps someone inside choosing chocolates, perhaps a farewell gift, perhaps simply a shared ritual of travel and sweetness. The city becomes a stage for small human narratives illuminated by shopfront light.
