Concert Footnotes – After The Applause

Artist’s Statement: D J Wilson, LRPS

In August 2025, The Kalfiefees Festival in Hermanus played host to a captivating musical collaboration that brought together two celebrated piano virtuosos—Rocco de Villiers and Coenie de Villiers.

Rocco, a household name in South African instrumental music, has built a career on his flamboyant stage presence, sparkling technique, and gift for storytelling through music. True to form, he appeared in one of his trademark colourful ensembles—complete with his own line of designer socks—bringing visual flair to match his virtuosic playing.

As the applause died down he re-appeared on stage to present his colourful socks complemented by the foot wear of the stage staff – hence this photo.
