Fire in Her Hands
Artist’s Statement: D J Wilson, LRPS
Captured during a live performance at dusk, Fire in Her Hands portrays the grace and confidence of a fire dancer framed by her own flames. Her expression radiates warmth and control, a striking contrast to the fierce energy of the fire she manipulates.
This image celebrates the harmony between danger and beauty, the fusion of art and risk — a portrait of human skill illuminated by light itself.
Shot using available light and precise timing, the photo balances exposure and emotion to freeze a fleeting moment of fiery elegance.
Between Flame and Breath
At the edge of evening’s fading gold,
where daylight loosens its careful hold,
she lifts the fire like living light,
a bloom of heat against the night.
Her smile is calm, her hands are sure —
where danger dances, she is pure.
But not all fire is spun in grace;
sometimes it burns in watchful space.
He stands where shadow meets the spark,
eyes tracing embers through the dark,
a silent pact with heat and air —
art is skill, and skill is care.
Between the glow and measured breath,
between bright beauty, risk, and death,
they shape the flame, yet are not free —
for fire demands humility.
And in that balance, fierce and still,
the light obeys the human will.
