Al Fresco Dining Nyhavn Copenhagen

Al Fresco Dining Nyhavn Copenhagen

Artist’s Statement: D J Wilson, LRPS

Nyhavn (meaning “New Harbour”) is a waterfront district of Copenhagen where most of the prominent buildings date from the late 17th Century when King Christian V had this canal dug by Swedish prisoners of war from the Dano-Swedish War of 1658-1660.

This photo is a perfect example of urban light as social energy. The late afternoon sun on colour-saturated façades, reflections, and people gathered at the water’s edge uses light as atmosphere and community.
