Watching The Sea

Watching The Sea

Artist’s Statement: D J Wilson, LRPS

A young bodyboarder stands alone at the edge, dwarfed by the sea’s relentless rhythms. With his back to the camera and board in hand, he embodies a quiet communion between human and ocean—anticipation etched in stance, reverence in stillness.

This is not a moment of conquest, but of listening.

Watching The Sea

He waits alone where ocean breathes,

board tucked close, the moment near —

beneath the surf’s salt canopy,

courage quiets fear.

No cheers, no splash, just sea and sky,

and a shirt stitched with tide and place.

A boy becomes a surfer now —

in stillness, not in race.
